What Healing Truly Means

When you’ve lived through trauma, been told to “just get over it,” or felt like you’re somehow “behind” in life, it’s easy to believe healing means becoming a perfect, pain-free version of yourself. But that’s not the truth.

Healing isn’t a finish line. It’s a permission slip — one you write for yourself — to live in a way that honors your needs, your story, and your pace.

Healing Is Not About Erasing Your Past

  • The past shapes you, but it doesn’t have to define you.

  • Healing means making peace with your story — not pretending it never happened.

  • This doesn’t mean you have to “forgive and forget.” It means you can move forward without carrying the same weight every day.

Healing Is Permission-Based

  • You don’t need anyone else to grant you permission to heal — only you.

  • This looks like:

    • Resting when you need to, without guilt.

    • Saying “no” when it’s not aligned with your values.

    • Creating boundaries to protect your energy.

  • The permission-based healing approach respects your nervous system and your lived experience.

Healing Is Messy and Nonlinear

  • There are no straight lines here — you’ll have good days, bad days, and days in between.

  • Progress can look like:

    • Responding with compassion to yourself in a moment you would have been self-critical.

    • Recognizing a trigger sooner than you used to.

    • Asking for help without shame.

Healing Is Rooted in Self-Trust

  • True healing is knowing you can handle what life brings your way.

  • You rebuild self-trust by:

    • Listening to your body’s cues.

    • Honoring your emotional boundaries.

    • Following through on promises you make to yourself.

Healing doesn’t mean becoming someone you’re not. It means returning home to yourself — and giving yourself permission to take the time and space you need to do it.✨ If this resonates, read more in my blog series on Permission-Based Healing and follow along as I share tools to make this your reality.
