My Journey To Trauma & Dissociation Therapist in Minnesota & North Dakota

How I Got to Where I am

My journey into trauma and dissociation work began in residential treatment centers, where I worked closely with adolescents facing significant emotional and behavioral challenges. Those years taught me so much about resilience, healing, and the deep impact of childhood trauma. Eventually, I transitioned to working with adults in a non-profit outpatient setting, where I discovered a new passion. I love the dedication and commitment adults bring to therapy. They are ready for change, eager to do the hard work, and tired of feeling stuck. This level of commitment and the transformations I’ve witnessed make my work so rewarding.

FAQ's About Abbie

What is it like to work with you as a therapist? Working with me feels like having someone in your corner who tells it like it is — but with compassion. I’m not the type of therapist who just nods and asks, “How does that make you feel?” I do, do that, but I also help you get to the root of what’s keeping you stuck, whether it’s trauma, people-pleasing patterns, or the constant feeling of being on edge. My style is straightforward, authentic, and down-to-earth. You’ll always know that you have a safe space here — free of judgment, full of honesty.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me? Therapy is all about the right fit. If you’re a woman who feels like past experiences — whether childhood, relationships, or trauma — are still weighing on you, we’ll probably work well together. My clients often come to me feeling burned out from putting others first, anxious, or disconnected from themselves. If you’re looking for a therapist who is warm but also not afraid to get to the root of what’s really going on, you may have found the right place.

Do you only work with women? My focus is on helping women heal from trauma, people-pleasing, and dissociation because I believe women carry unique pressures and wounds that deserve dedicated space. That said, if you feel connected to my approach and story, I welcome a conversation. The most important part is that therapy feels like a safe fit for you.

Can I work with you if I’ve already tried therapy before? Absolutely. Many of my clients have been to therapy before — sometimes several times — and still feel like they’ve only scratched the surface. The difference here is that I use approaches like IFS, EMDR, and CPT that go deeper than talk therapy alone. Together, we’ll focus on actually releasing what’s stuck in your nervous system, not just coping with it. If you’ve felt discouraged before, know that it’s possible to try again with a different approach that may finally bring the change you’ve been looking for.

What do I do if I’m interested in starting therapy with you? Getting started is simple. You can head over to my Contact page to send me a message with basic information so that I can contact you to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. From there, we’ll schedule a first session and begin at a pace that feels right for you. Even if you’re nervous about taking the first step, just reaching out is already a huge act of courage. You don’t have to have it all figured out before starting — that’s what therapy is for.
