Frequently Asked Questions About Virtual Trauma Therapy in North Dakota & Minnesota
Starting therapy can bring up many questions and uncertainties. I'm here to provide clarity and support as you consider this important step toward healing.

Getting Started with Online Trauma Therapy
How do I schedule, reschedule, or cancel an online session? Scheduling is easy—you can complete a contact form on my contact page, that I will respond to within 24 hours on business days to schedule your free consultation and your first session. After that, you have the ability to message me through my client portal to schedule, reschedule, or cancel a session. Need to reschedule or cancel? Just give at least 48 hours' notice. Life happens, and I get it—communication is key.

What should I expect during my first online therapy session? In our first session, we will focus on what brings you here and what you hope to get out of therapy. You don't have to share your full story right away—we go at your pace. I'll ask some questions to get to know you, and you'll have space to ask anything too. It's all about starting to build trust.
How do I know if online therapy is the right fit for me? If you are looking for flexibility and the comfort of being in your own space, online therapy might be a great fit. Many of my clients appreciate not having to commute or sit in a waiting room. If you have privacy and internet access, we can make it work. And if you're unsure, we can talk about it in a free consult.
ND & MN Therapy Details
How does online therapy work, and is it effective for trauma? Yes—online therapy CAN be just as effective as in-person therapy for trauma. I use trauma-focused, evidence-based approaches like EMDR, CPT, and IFS. Sessions are held over a secure video platform, and we work together just like we would in an office. Many clients say they feel more comfortable opening up from home.
What types of trauma do you treat, and what therapy methods do you use? I specialize in working with adult women who have experienced childhood trauma (abuse, neglect, etc.), relationship trauma (domestic violence, unhealthy communication, etc.), or women-specific trauma (birth or postpartum, etc.) I use EMDR to process stuck memories, CPT to challenge beliefs like "I'm broken," and IFS to help you reconnect with and understand the parts of yourself that had to adapt to survive.

Logistics & Confidentiality
What do I need to attend an online therapy session, and is it confidential? You'll need a private space, a device with internet access, and headphones if you want extra privacy. Sessions are held on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. I take your privacy seriously—everything we talk about stays between us, with a few legal exceptions we'll go over together.
Will insurance cover online therapy, and how do I pay for my sessions? I currently accept BCBS, Sanford Health Plan, UHC, Medica, UMR, and offer private pay options. Many insurance plans do cover online therapy—especially since COVID. If you're unsure, I recommend calling your insurance to ask about coverage for outpatient telehealth therapy. Payments are made online through the client portal and are due at the time of service.
What if I'm not in North Dakota or Minnesota? Because of licensing laws, I can only provide therapy to people who are PHYSICALLY LOCATED in North Dakota or Minnesota at the time of session—even if you live somewhere else. If you're outside of these states, I'd be happy to refer you to a trusted provider in your area.
